Location

Afon Wen is situated in Llandderfel in the beautiful Dee valley a short distance from Lake Bala. There is plenty to do in this largely undiscovered part of Wales, sailing on Lake Bala, white water rafting, kayaking and walking the peaceful hills.
The town of Llangollen with it's canal boats is a short distance away, and the world heritage site of Pontcysyllte Aquaduct makes an excellent day out. The historic Roman city of Chester is within easy reach and a little over an hours drive will take you to Liverpool or into the heart of Snowdonia.
This area is a foodie paradise with eating places ranging from a Michelin starred restaurant in the village of Llandrillo to the Rhug estate Bison farmshop and restaurant which serves amazing burgers.

Lake Bala Bala

The picturesque market town of Bala is situated on the banks of the tranquil Bala Lake. It’s always popular with visitors and definitely worth visiting. “Bala” is a Welsh word that refers a route between 2 areas of wet ground, in this case the river Dee from Llyn Tegid and the Afon (river)Tryweryn. The town is very traditional, and ranks 11th in terms of the highest percentage of Welsh speakers; almost 80% of the community speak the Brittonic language fluently.

National Whitewater Centre 1 National White Water Centre

The National White Water Centre is the main Welsh white water training centre and the home of white water rafting and kayaking in the UK. Based on the River Tryweryn in Snowdonia National Park, the water levels are dam-controlled so the rapids rage year-round and the river conditions are consistently reliable.

Rhug Estate Organic Farm 1 Rhug Estate Organic Farm, Corwen

Rhug Estate is the home of Lord Newborough, covering about 12,500 acres of land in Denbighshire. But that’s not why we’re recommending it to you. Rhug Estate is also an organic farm, an award winning one at that, with seven Guild of Fine Food Taste Awards to its name, as well as a place on The Times’ 20 Best Farm Shops in Britain list.
