The inside of the semi-detached farmhouse is stylishly decorated and comfortably furnished in a style in keeping with its character. The oak panelled lounge has a huge open fireplace and the dining room features a long refectory table and a  small fridge (in addition to that in the kitchen), both rooms having original stone/slate flooring. Also on the ground floor are the kitchen, fully equipped and with modern units and appliances and a bathroom (roll-top bath with shower over). The first floor has a substantial master bedroom (with super king size four poster bed), a further bedroom with superking bed and en-suite shower room, a smaller double bedroom and the spacious main bathroom (freestanding bath and large shower cubicle).   Accessed via a narrow stairway is a further attic twin bedroom.  The separate gatehouse provides an additional hideaway twin bedroom.

Facilities include full wifi, central heating, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, additional fridge in dining room, washing machine (in a separate wash house), microwave, DVD and garden furniture. Bed linen, towels, electricity, heating and logs are supplied and included in tariff.
Kennel available if required. This is a no smoking property.

Location

Gilar Farm is an outstanding and unique Grade II* Listed farmhouse set in 500 acres of farmland with its own mountain, ancient woodlands and ponds to explore during your stay. Built around 1600AD as the seat of the High Sheriff of Denbighshire, original features such as beams, large fireplaces and oak panelling give this period house great charm and character. In 1623 a beautiful gatehouse was added, which, whilst not now in active use as an entrance, retains the original gate and leads through a walled garden to the huge studded door on the main house.Through all four seasons visitors to Gilar can observe the workings of the farm, walk or cycle on the many local paths and tracks, take picnics to the ponds (enjoy a dip if warm enough!) or simply relax in front of a roaring log fire.
Gilar is located almost exactly in the centre of North Wales, with splendid views of Tryfan and the Snowdonia massif from the approach road and the higher areas of land around the house. Just 2 miles from Pentrefoelas, not far from mountain bike trails in Penmachno and a few miles further to the shops and restaurants of Betws y Coed in the Snowdonia National Park. Here you will aslo find ZipWorld Fforest with a kilometre long coaster, treetop nets and much more for all the family. Alternatively Llangollen, Ruthin and Denbigh are market towns well worth a visit or the beaches and coastal walks of Cardigan Bay and Llandudno offer a different day out within an hour's drive.

The house was wonderful and suited us well we really appreciated the heating being on when we arrived late and tired. Great to have a log fire on a cold wet evening. Excellent laundry facilities in our house. Best of all was evening walks up the mountain and different views each time depending on the weather. Granddaughter loved sleeping in gatehouse.

We are very pleased that you had such a wonderful time at Gilar Farm and that you enjoyed the walks on the mountain.

Beautiful quaint property with tons of charm!
  • 5 out of 5
Magical atmosphere, superb character, awesome landscape, lovely people and a proper fire. The uneven floors, low doorways and wonky stairs are exactly what you would hope for in a 400 year old building and can easily be negotiated with care by any responsible adult. Probably the best holiday cottage we have ever stayed in with certainly the best equipped kitchen!
  • 3 out of 5
Nice cottage, but not quite to the expected standard.
  • 5 out of 5
The property exceeded expectations. Great location, beautiful views, very quirky house and great to see a lot of the original property remained, especially the locking device for the front door. Must make one point though - please advise future guests they need to duck on a regular basis as a lot of the doorways etc are quite low. We had a lot of sore heads!!

Please remember that these are people's opinions and not an official grading or statement of fact. There should be enough information in the descriptions and pictures for you to be able to make an informed decision about the suitability of this cottage, if you are unsure of something then please call or email us. All our cottages are regularly inpsected by our agency and by Visit Wales (an independent Welsh Goverment body) and meet all the requirements of holiday lettings.

Lake Bala Bala

The picturesque market town of Bala is situated on the banks of the tranquil Bala Lake. It’s always popular with visitors and definitely worth visiting. “Bala” is a Welsh word that refers a route between 2 areas of wet ground, in this case the river Dee from Llyn Tegid and the Afon (river)Tryweryn. The town is very traditional, and ranks 11th in terms of the highest percentage of Welsh speakers; almost 80% of the community speak the Brittonic language fluently.

Pont Y Pair Bridge In Betws Y Coed Betws-y-Coed

The most popular inland resort in North Wales, partly due to its convenience as a location but mostly thanks to its beauty and splendour. A lot of the village dates back to the Victorians, and their influence still abounds in the buildings. Surrounded by the dense forestry and imposing mountains of the region, Betws-y-Coed feels pleasantly out of the way.

Conwy Falls Cafe seating Conwy Falls Cafe
