Rainy Day Activities The Copper Kingdom, Anglesey
Opening times: Tue-Sun 10:30-17:00 (Easter – October only)
Price: Adult £5.50, Child £4.25

“The Copper Kingdom” actually refers to the Amlwch area in Anglesey and there is a lot to see and do here including Parys Mountain and The Trust and Sail Loft, which is a Maritime Heritage Centre at Amlwch Port. Best for a rainy day though is the award-winning Copper Kingdom Centre.

Also based at Amlwch Port, the heritage centre features a number of interactive displays which tell the story of the history of copper mining in the surrounding area. You’ll learn all about how the copper was mined at Parys Mountain before being taken down for processing at Amlwch Port and being shipped off to destinations all over the world.

There’s plenty to keep the kids entertained as they experience what life was like as a miner in former times, as well as a copper lady and mine assayer, learning what their roles entailed and what mining life meant to them.

The Centre was developed by Menter Môn together with the Amlwch Heritage Trust and is a project aiming to preserve and promote the industrial, social and environmental heritage of the local area. The Centre also won a RIBA organisation award in 2014 for the category ‘Best Building’.
