2017 is Wales’ ‘Year of Legends’, but rather than looking back, we want to switch things up and inspire you to live out your own modern-day legend by inviting you to experiencing some of North Wales’ most unique adventure attractions.

Visitors can now experience North Wales like never before; many of the adventure attractions here feature cutting-edge innovation and some of them boast to be the biggest, highest and longest in Europe!

So, with all this on offer, we challenge you to get out there and create your own Welsh legends! These 5 family-friendly active experiences will give you plenty of ideas to get your own epic adventure started.

1. Crash & Splash Lagoon at Surf Snowdonia

Ready to get wet, wild and challenge your family and friends to a ‘Total Wipeout’ type experience? Well, Crash and Splash at Surf Snowdonia is exactly that..

Just next to the surf lagoon, is the Crash & Splash assault course. It features a number of tricky obstacles for you to conquer including monkey bars, rope bridges, spinning balls and a slippery climbing wall - all suspended over the pool in for maximum plunge opportunity.

Do you think you can get around the whole course without falling into the water? It’s trickier than it looks!

The fun doesn't stop there - the grand finalé of Crash & Splash is the gigantic catapult Blob. You’ll be launched up to 4 metres into the air from a giant bouncy airbag, before splash landing into the water - take a look at the action in this short video.

It doesn’t matter what the weather is doing as you’ll be all kitted up warm in a wetsuit (provided by Surf Snowdonia), so get a group together and head down to Dolgarrog!

2. Deep Mine Tour at Llechwedd Slate Caverns

Llechwedd Slate Caverns in Blaenau Ffestiniog has been a popular attraction for years, but their latest offering really immerses visitors into the experience.

At one time, the slate industry in Wales employed an army of around 17,000 men and Blaenau Ffestiniog was at the heart of the action. Once hailed as the slate capital of the world, this small Welsh town now only has one remaining working mine, which is Llechwedd.

Llechwedd Slate Caverns award-winning Deep Mine Tour takes you 500ft underground and walks you through the entire history of the mine and the lives of its workers. The experience is like no other. The use of enhanced reality technology, special effects and 4D light projections is as close to being transported back in time as you’ll get!

The tour is very interactive and hands-on; you’ll even get to try out some of the miners’ equipment yourself. Wear warm clothes and good, sturdy footwear as it’s pretty damp and chilly in the dark depths of the caverns.

Top tip: for discounted entry, book online for the first tours of the day.

3. Skyride and Plummet at Zipworld Fforest

New for 2017, is the latest addition to the Zip World empire - Zipworld Fforest. Zipworld have taken over the Tree Top Adventure site in Betws y Coed, adding a variety of adventures to the menu with some great new attractions.

The stars of the show are Skyride - which (in true Zipworld style) is Europe's highest skyride, and Plummet, the world’s highest Powerfan parachute simulator.

Skyride soars you high above the trees in a huge 5 seater swing, whereas Plummet - exactly as it says on the tin - lets you take a ‘leap of faith’ from a treetop platform, free-falling 100ft to a gentle, powerfan assisted landing.

The attractions are individually priced so you can take a 'pick & mix' approach and try out just one, or all of the adventures.

4. Challenge at Go Below

This is a totally different approach to a Welsh mine tour. You’ll be astounded by this unique and exhilarating sensory experience, which makes the story of the miner’s lives more compelling, poignant and memorable than ever before.

You’ll navigate the caverns and traverse, abseil and even take a boat across an underground lake!

At some points of the underground obstacle course, there's no lighting apart from your head lamp. Much of the mine and it’s caverns have been left untouched, which gives you a more genuine experience.

Just take a look at the reviews on Go Below’s Facebook page and you’ll see how much people love this attraction.

5. Velocity Quarry Tour at Zipworld Bethesda

Still not sure going underground or hurtling along zipwires is your thing? The Velocity Quarry Tour is a great way to get in on the action, without such an intense adrenaline hit!

The tour takes you around Penrhyn Quarry in a specialised off-road vehicle, stopping at some magnificent viewpoints where the guides will talk you through stories of the mine and the region’s industrial past.

Just before the tour concludes you’ll get to watch the zipline riders hurtle down the wire at breathtaking speed, before they hop on the truck and join you on the way back to reception.
