Gwrych Castle was built in the early 1800s and belonged to the Bamford Hesketh family until the mid 1900s. After the family left, the castle was used for a number of different purposes until it was closed down in the 1980s. After several attempts to resurrect the castle it was purchased in 2018 by the Gwyrch Castle Preservation Trust who hope to build a sustainable future for the castle.

Gwyrch Castle gained fame as the location for the 2020 televison program "I'm a celebrity...get me out of here". Once a fine family home, the building has fallen into disrepair, with only the walls of the building remaining. It's still worth a visit as it's easy to imagine this Victorian Castle in its full splendour. The beautiful location is also worth a visit, nestled on the side of a wooded hill with views across the town of Abergele and the North Wales coast.

The castle and grounds are open to the public every day between 10am and 5pm with easy parking in the large car park. We suggest you allow an hour to walk round the castle and grounds but you could easily stay longer. A free leaflet is provided with the entry fee which details the history and various  buildings.

At the time of writing there are no refreshments available so bring your own or visit one of the cafes in the local town.

For more information see the Gwrych Castle website.
